over jason mraz, comfort in home, and lounging
tony asks me: so shu lin, do you like white guys?
he means whether i would consider dating anyone who wasn't well asian, or oriental to be specific.
although at first, i thought he was just nervous about having me as a roommate and was afraid that i wouldn't like him as a friend.
so would i?
i don't know.
for me it's a comfort issue. i take a long time to warm up to people. and an easy way out would be to date someone who knew where i was coming from or my culture at least.
but at the same time, i wouldn't want anyone who couldn't be open-minded about things and kept clinging and imposing an ethnocentric view.
so maybe, possibly, perhaps.
i think my worry would be that half of my attraction would be part experimentation, like what on earth is it like to date someone of a different colour, of a different race?
and that could lead to serious complications if i can't be real and treat the other person or love him for WHO he is and not WHAT he is.
in short? the answer?
if i'm comfortable with the other person and it's a good relationship in which both are willing to make an active and aware choice to invest in,
then yes. it doesn't matter whether he's black, white, brown or as yellow as they come. it's after all, who, not what.
but for now.
i am not interested in romantic relationships. i like my singleton status and i'd rather invest myself in building friendships. i'm at that point in my life where i don't find myself longing for a certain someone to share moments with. i lust after independence, forging new relationships and picking up old ones again.

i'm moving the main bulk of things over to 4822 chancellor blvd tomorrow. i'm excited to finally be home. it's going to be interesting and challenging, living with a diverse group of people, sharing a room with hannah, adapting to an entirely new environment. i don't doubt that there are going to be times of conflict.
but i do believe that it was and is providence that brought us there.
