of fortune cookies, hectic schedules and a nice warm home

not too long ago, i had two fortune cookies. this came at a time where i was struggling with decisions over my new house and whether i would even have a home to stay in.

the first fortune cookie read

you will attract artistic and creative people to your new home

i merely responded with a disgruntled "hrrrmph" to that fortune because i was depressed by my living situation at that time.

who knew that a week later i would be living in a house with three musically inclined people, one a playwright, another an ex theatre student and the last a film and philosophy double major graduate. throw in the second year poli sci student and you'll find that i'm probably the only one here with any semblance of a science background.

i am blessed with this home and my new roommies.

i don't recall what my second fortune cookie said exactly, but i remember folding it smaller and smaller into tiny little rectangles, until the long sentence that it contained was minimized and only two words in bold red were left staring, pointedly at me.

be generous

at that time, i was struggling with forgiveness for some, with dissatisfaction with my landlord and really just not wanting to be gracious.

let that be a reminder to me. and what i constantly have to strive to be.

i don't believe in horoscopes, fortune cookies or magic eight balls.
but i do believe that our God is not limited.
and if He decided to show off his sense of humour, i'm sure He could talk to me through fortune cookies on some days.
