pygmalion and the scientist

this is a really random post. but one of the many distractions that i find whilst studying.

i was listening to coldplay's "the scientist" and for some bizarre reason, the image of pygmalion struck me and it seemed to fit some of the lyrics. his obsession with the ideal beauty he created, his entrapment in the world he created, and the inability to desert the place thereafter but a constant, incessant preoccupation, obsession with his ivory maid on a pedestal.

flesh willing clay to life, however haunted by the cold touch in return, and digging digging fervently to make stone warm, real.

now i don't think coldplay meant their song to be read this way. but for that moment, i thought the lyrics were fitting.

end ramble.

Come up to meet you, Tell you I’m sorry, You don’t know how lovely you are
I had to find you, Tell you I need you, Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, And ask me your questions, Aww let’s go back to the start

I was just guessin’, At numbers and figures, Pullin’ the puzzles apart
Questions of science, Science and progress, Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me, Come back to haunt me, Oh when I rush to the start
Runnin’ in circles, Chasin’ our tails, Comin’ back as we are

Nobody said it was easy Aww It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be so hard
I’m goin’ back to the start

coldplay--the scientist.

Dong mused over this song with regards to me. And I sometimes think this of Dennis. But I do hope it's all over now and the past can remain the past. you're right. Cold statues and fabrications don't work.
