i can tell we're going to be friends

amidst video games, coffee, pancakes for breakfast, wine, bruises, skinned knees, cuts, photos and heaps of deli meat and cheese,
i knew we were going to stay friends

the past weekend was an absolute blast and very special to me. i came as a tangled ball of insecurities, a little worried about how conversations would turn out after not seeing each other for 2 years. but i came away remembering and affirming all the reasons why we became and are friends.

boy,
in the midst of jumping from rock to rock and slipping down a cliff face, you taught me about friendship again and about investing in people for the long-term. the here-and-now is not enough and should not be delimiting.

i can possibly go on gushing, but in short, thank you for sharing life with me.

Fall is here, hear the yell
back to school, ring the bell
brand new shoes, walking blues
climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends

white stripes---"we're going to be friends",
heard during the opening of napoleon dynamite, at which point i realized we're going to stay friends.
